Veteran journalist, adventurer and advocate, Ashlan Gorse Cousteau travels the world in search of stories that entertain and inspire. From diving with great white sharks off Mexico, searching for tigers in the jungles of Nepal and running with the caribou in the Arctic, Cousteau engages viewers through incredible tales and experiences.
Ashlan's debut documentary Nuclear Sharks, for Discovery Channel's Shark Week, premiered as the #1 rated show across all cable programming. Traveling to the Marshall Islands, she lead an expedition to film, tag and investigate the mysterious grey reef sharks who survived against all odds in the fall out of one of the world’s largest nuclear testing grounds. Ashlan also joined the eccentric crew of the "Desiree" for season two of The Aquatic World of Philippe Cousteau, the highly successful adventure spoof, on CNN's digital platform Great Big Story.
For over a decade, Ashlan has worked for the top rated entertainment shows; at Entertainment Tonight as a special correspondent and for 7 years prior as a correspondent and fill-in anchor for E! News. She also was the lead anchor on E! News Now, reaching millions of digital viewers a day. In these roles, she covers everything from breaking news and celebrity exclusives to award shows and premieres.
Ashlan produced a series of groundbreaking digital documentaries focusing on our natural world. The first expedition, Treasures of the Terai, follows Cousteau on an adventure around Nepal, searching for endangered Indian tigers and one-horned rhinos. She also joined husband Philippe Cousteau as a team member of EarthEcho International’s Into the Dead Zone, an innovative new initiative designed to bring science alive for 21st century learners.
Cousteau’s endeavors go beyond the small screen. At the request of the United Nations, Ashlan served as host for the UN’s Convention on Migratory Species in Quito, Ecuador. She was selected by former Vice-President Al Gore to be the opening anchor for his internationally live broadcast of Climate Reality, 24. Cousteau is a major supporter of animal welfare and pet adoptions. She has hosted many events for: Starlight Children’s Foundation; Susan G. Komen; the Humane Society and the Inspiration Awards. In addition, Ashlan sits on the Board of the Environmental Media Association.
Cousteau has extensive production experience, working as a segment producer for MSNBC and behind the scenes at broadcast giant NBC on high-profile shows including The Today Show, Saturday Night Live, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and Access Hollywood. Ashlan was also the West Coast Editor at Large with Life & Style Weekly. Specializing in pop culture and celebrity news, she became one of the nation’s most sought after entertainment experts and on-air commentators. She regularly appeared on outlets such as NBC, CNN, CBS, MSNBC, and Fox News. Ashlan has also created alignments with many corporate partners including La Mer Skin Care, BMW and Wella Hair Care among others.
Ashlan earned a BA in Broadcast Journalism and a Minor in Music from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s prestigious School of Journalism. Ashlan, her husband Philippe, and their rescued Siberian husky Kenai reside in Los Angeles.
